Furiosamente rítmico -Mi concierto en el Southbank Centre es el 7 de Junio

¿Cómo se puede explicar que algunas piezas son deliciosas ? Sólo puedo sugerirles por ahora que vayan a el Southbank Centre, que está mucho más cerca que Caracas o Buenos Aires para escuchar y sentir que los sonidos tienen una tercera ¿dimensión, que pueden ser palpables y pueden ser saboreados; ¿tiene sentido? Por favor, hágamelo saber después de haber estado allí

Me encanta cada nota de las piezas que estaremos tocando en la tarde del domingo 07 de junio a las 4.00 pm en el muy prestigioso Southbank Centre, uno de los centros culturales de Londres que he visitado desde que era un estudiante en el Royal College of Music y donde he tenido el privilegio de tocar conciertos regularmente desde 1992.

Ya que la fecha y la hora me parecieron tan alegres, una soleada tarde de domingo, pensé que sólo un programa de piezas idem podría hacerse.

Comenzando por dos magníficas obras de Albéniz, Evocación y El Puerto, se crea un estado de ánimo que evoca tiempos pasados ​​impregnados de nostalgia y la alegría de la música que tiene elementos de la danza en su núcleo, seguido de dos Danzas Argentinas de Alberto Ginastera, de nuevo, dos gemas contrastantes del repertorio pianístico. El vals Adriana de mi amigo venezolano Miguel Astor se tocará justo antes de la Rhapsody in Blue de Gerswihn y después de esta maravillosa pieza me veré unida a mis músicos invitados para interpretar la hermosa y triste zamba de Ariel Ramírez, Alfonsina y el mar. Siguiendo con el toque femenino, vamos a tocar el Pajarillo de otra querida amiga, la compositora Luisa Elena Paesano, el público sentirá la alegría de la luz del sol de Venezuela, en sonidos, lo aseguro.

El viaje continuará a Brasil con un famoso choro de Ernesto Nazareth, Odeon,y para completar esta primera mitad el Joropo de Moisés Moleiro colmará la sala y el espíritu de los oyentes.

Plantio do caboclo de Heitor Villa-Lobos abre la segunda parte y da paso a más chorinhos o tangos brasileños como Nazaret realmente les llama. La música colombiana estará representada aquí por dos composiciones de Germán Darío Pérez,  tradicionales y al mismo tiempo, en su pasillo y en el bambuco, detectamos una influencia del género creado por Aldemaro Romero, llamado Onda Nueva.

He incluido también la famosa Malagueña del cubano Ernesto Lecuona impregnada del sentimiento andaluz y el brillante zumba Que Zumba, otro enrevesado joropo del venezolano Federico Ruiz.

Para finalizar este maravilloso viaje que estamos planeando estrenaremos una pieza del joven compositor Carlos Pérez Tabares, originalmente escrita para el piano, pero bajo mi petición ha añadido amablemente partes para el cuatro y el contrabajo; Wilmer y Ernesto han añadido la percusión y batería. Se llama Merengada de pajarillo. Voy a explicar más sobre esto en el concierto. Es realmente interesante y emocionante. Por ahora les digo que es un merengue venezolano inspirado en el llamado joropo Pajarillo.

En definitiva se trata de un programa muy especial que mezcla piezas nostálgicas, expresivas con las otras muy rítmicas rápidas y felices. Gran parte de esta música se caracteriza por el virtuosismo, improvisación, armonías cambios de ritmos sutiles y está llena de síncopa!

Realmente espero que ustedes disfrutarán tanto como nosotros.

Furiously rhythmical -My next London concert is on June 7th at 4.00 pm

How can one explain that some pieces are delicious to play? I can only suggest to travel as far as the Southbank Centre which is much nearer than say Caracas or Buenos Aires to listen and feel that the sounds have a third dimension, that they can be palpable and can be savoured; does it make sense? Please let me know after you’ve been.

I love every bit of the pieces we shall be performing on the afternoon of Sunday 7th June at 4.00 pm at the very prestigious Southbank Centre, one of those London landmarks that I have been visiting since I was a student at the Royal College of Music and where I have had the priviledge of performing regularly since 1992. Since the date and the time are so joyous, a sunny Sunday afternoon, I thought that only a programme full of idem pieces could fit the bill.

Commencing by two magnificent pieces by Albéniz, Evocation and El Puerto, I think that I set the mood evoking past times pregnant with nostalgia as well as the happiness of the music that has dance elements in its core followed by two Argentinean dances by Alberto Ginastera, again two contrasting gems of the piano repertoire. The waltz Adriana by my friend Miguel Astor will be performed just before Gerswihn’s Rhapsody in Blue. After this wonderful well-known piece, I shall be joined by my musician friends to give an account of the beautiful and sad zamba by Ariel Ramírez, Alfonsina y el mar and to follow with the feminine touch, we shall perform Pajarillo by another dear friend, composer Luisa Elena Paesano, the public will feel the happiness of the Venezuelan sunshine in sounds!

The journey will continue down to Brazil with a famous choro by Ernesto Nazareth, Odeon, to then round off  this first half with the popular Joropo by Moisés Moleiro.

Plantio do caboclo by Heitor Villa-Lobos opens the second half to give way to more chorinhos or Brazilian tangos as Nazareth really called them. Colombian music will be represented here by two compositions by Germán Darío Pérez, jazzy but traditional at the same time, his pasillo and bambuco are based on typical rhythms from his country with what we detect as an influence of the genre created by Aldemaro Romero called Onda Nueva.

I have included too the famous Malagueña by the Cuban Ernesto Lecuona redolent of Andalucian feeling and the brilliant Zumba que zumba by Federico Ruiz.

To end this marvellous journey we plan to première a piece by the very young composer Carlos Pérez Tabares, originally written for the piano but under my request he has kindly arranged it by adding the cuatro and the double bass to it, Wilmer and Ernesto have added the percussion and drums. It is called Merengada de pajarillo. I’ll explain more about it in the concert. It is really interesting and exciting…ok, it is a Venezuelan merengue inspired by the joropo called Pajarillo.

In sum it is a very special programme that mixes nostalgic, expressive pieces with fast and happy rhythmical ones . Much of this music is characterized by virtuosity, improvisation, subtle harmonies and it is full of syncopation!

El premio de los Latinos en el Reino Unido -LUKAS

 

He tenido el honor de haber sido nombrada Músico Clásico del Año por los premios LUKAS 2015. Se trata de un galardón que tiene una votación pública y en donde también hay jueces que emiten sus votos para elegir a los ganadores de una lista de nominados. Dicha lista es así mismo elegida por el público. El Premio Latino del Reino Unido (LUKAS) es el único reconocimiento que existe en este país que se la hace a la contribución del millón de habitantes provenientes de América Latina, España y Portugal. Es el evento latino que ha tenido mayor difusión en los medios de comunicación en la historia del Reino Unido, alcanzando un estimado de 10 millones de personas en el Reino Unido y América del Sur. Ha habido una explosión de hermosos mensajes, TV, radio y en los medios de comunicación en general, desde los principales periódicos a las revistas de farándula.  Para mí ha sido maravilloso ver la reacción de la gente y la felicidad y el orgullo que esta distinción ha traído a mi país, a mis colegas británicos y venezolanos, amigos, familiares y a todos los que siguen mi carrera con tanto cariño. ¡Ese ha sido el verdadero premio para mí! A través de esta experiencia puedo comprobar que el trabajo que uno hace con tanto esfuerzo el cual es muchas veces solitario, tiene significado para muchas personas; que no sólo la incertidumbre que conlleva esta ocupación, sino también la alegría y emoción que uno siente por la planificación de los conciertos, con los programas a realizar o incluso que la enseñanza de nuestro arte tiene un lugar en la sociedad, la cual es tan diversa. El día 13 de Mayo del 2015 bailarines, curadores de exposiciones, futbolistas, gente de la restauración, artístas plásticos, políticos, leyendas del pop y de la salsa, así como músicos clásicos -¡yo! en esta ocasión – fuimos invitados a subir al escenario de un teatro del norte de Londres, con todos los honores, para compartir algo de nuestra multiculturalidad.Venezuela tuvo una importante presencia en el evento ya que el mismo estuvo animado por el presentador de la TV española Boris Izaguirre, con actuaciones del comediante George Harris y del admirado músico pop, Jorge Spiteri.

Ha sido una experiencia maravillosa. Gracias a los creadores de esta excelente y valiosa idea.

The LUKAS – A welcome award

I have been honoured by having been named Classical Act of the Year by the LUKAS 2015.

This is an award that has a public vote and there are also judges that cast theirs  to choose the winners out of a list of nominees. The Latin-UK Awards (LUKAS) is the only award to recognize the contribution of Britain’s one million Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese residents. It is the most media covered Latin event in the UK’s history, reaching an estimated 10 million people in the UK and South America.

There has been an explosion of beautiful messages, TV, Radio and in the media in general, from the main newspapers to celebrity magazines. It has been amazing to see the reaction of the people and how much happiness and pride this distinction has brought to my country, my British colleagues, friends and fans. That is the real prize for me.

It is fantastic to see that one’s work has meaning for so many people; that not only the uncertainty that this occupation entails but also the joy and thrill one feels by planning the concerts, dreaming of the programmes and performing or even teaching has a place in our  diverse society.

Dancers, exhibition curators, footballers, restaurateurs, artists, politicians, salsa and pop legends as well as Classical musicians -me on this occasion!-  were invited to go up onto a stage “with all the trimmings” to share our very rich multiculturality.

It has been a lovely experience. Thank you to the creators of this excellent and valuable idea.
