CLARA RODRIGUEZ is one of the most distinguished of the present generation of international pianists. Her programmes have consistently contrasted traditional classical music with the output of South American composers. Recently she has been nominated as Classical Musician of the Year by The Latin UK Awards (LUKAS 2012) which celebrates the contribution of Britain´s one million Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese residents. Since coming to London to study at the Royal College of Music with Phyllis Sellick, she has performed extensively as a soloist at Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, Barbican Centre and at St John’s Smith Square and has toured in Europe, India, Egypt, Tunisia and the Americas. In Caracas, aged sixteen she made her debut playing Mozart Piano Concerto No 27 with the Simón Bolívar Orchestra under the baton of José Antonio Abreu. Glowing reviews are regularly written about her discography on the Nimbus label which includes CDs of the piano music of composers such as Ernesto Lecuona, Moises Moleiro, Federico Ruiz and Teresa Carreño; her latest album: “VENEZUELA” was reviewed by Gramophone thus: “Clara Rodriguez makes the most of her innate feel for the exuberant and languorous, dispatching the toe-tapping cross-rhythms with panache and a light touch”
She has commissioned and premièred many works including Federico Ruiz’s Second Piano Concerto which she recorded with the Orquesta Municipal de Caracas. Clara Rodriguez has edited piano albums for Spartan Press Publishers and teaches the piano at the JD of the Royal College of Music Her next London concert “Moonlight Sonata by Candlelight” is on Tuesday 29th January 2013 at Saint Martin-in-The-Fields, Trafalgar Square. A delightful programme around the theme of the spirituality and special qualities of evening, moonlight and night that have inspired great composers such as Beethoven, Debussy, Lecuona (Conga de media noche), Maria Luisa Escobar (Noche de luna en Altamira). It will be a fantastic and unforgettable experience to hear these compostitions played by Clara Rodriguez at one of the most cherished of all concert venues in the world with the added touch of the warmth of candlelight.
Her new CD for Nimbus of the Piano Music of Ernesto Lecuona will be released in January 2013 and will be available at the concert
